Project Abstract

The farmers from different regions of Georgia are often in desperate need of the most basic and practical information, trainings and networks of contacts pertaining to appropriate agricultural practices. They lack the knowledge of modern  methods of farming and technologies. They are not well aware how to protect harvest against diseases, weeds and insects, as well as how to use the pesticides in a harmless way, that  leads to the contamination of the environment and threats to the health of public.

Taking into consideration the needs and interests of farmers, APLR, through the support of AgVANTAGE project/ACDI/VOCA, conducts workshops in various regions of Georgia. The workshops deal with soil cultivation, use of fertilizers, herbicides and insecticides; seedling growing and soil preparation for replanting,  plants protection  against weeds, insects and diseases, vine and fruit tree saplings, soil sterilization; root stock selection and reproduction; fruiting material selection for grafting; plant growing in the green houses.

APLR also provides training for both local self-government and government officials and farmers who usually  take interest to get a thorough knowledge of land related issues. Trainings cover the topics related to land reform, land/real state legislation, registration procedures, tax code provisions, such as object of taxation, tax benefits on the land tax and  property tax.

Providing training to farmers in new agricultural practices contributes to increasing both quality and quantity of agricultural produce; As a result of the project both farmers and local government representatives are also provided with up-to-date information on real estate legislation.
