Full Activity Title: Elaboration of Reference Book for Farmers

Location: Georgia

Activity Dates: February, 2002 – February, 2003

Source of Funding: Eurasia Foundation

Project  Abstract

The farmers  in all regions of Georgia often lack the essential knowledge on their rights and responsibilities related to land/real estate ownership and registration, agricultural activity, procedures and land taxation, that negatively affects their farming practices and leads to violation of their rights by state institutions.

The project envisions elaboration, publication and free-of-charge distribution of the Reference Book  and aims at  providing public education on farming related legal issues, leading to reducing  violations of farmers' rights by bureaucratic institutions.

Reference Book contains information on different aspects of farming: land taxes, access to credits,  legal transportation of agricultural products, sample contracts how to sell, purchase, lease or mortgage land parcels, that helps farmers to adequately process and regulate commercial relations. The Book also contains contact information of  financial, state, non-governmental and donor organizations that may be helpful in planning  business activities. It is written in plain and popular language. Legal terms glossary is attached to provide thorough explanations.

Farmers find Reference Book to be very helpfull for their practices.  They acknowledge that the Book serves as a comprehensive compilation of practical information with respect to different procedures that Georgian farmers often have to undergo.
